Fun fact: The first U.S. tennis court in the grounds of the Staten Island Cricket Club, New York, was set up by Mary Ewing in 1874 after visiting Bermuda and purchasing tennis equipment from British army officers.
Grotto Bay Beach Resort & Spa has four state of the art outdoor tennis courts. Under the leadership of our tennis pro, Romar Douglas, competitive and friendly games, kid’s camps and tennis lessons are all available. Tennis equipment is also available to rent.

Romar Douglas (Tennis Pro Bio)
Certified Tennis Professional by USPTA, lessons are available with Coach Romar Douglas for all abilities and age levels. At age 29, Romar Douglas is considered a young veteran in the Bermuda tennis world, having played competitive tennis for almost 20 years. After graduating with Honors from the world-renowned Van Der Meer Tennis Academy on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina, Coach Douglas went on to attend Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he graduating with a Bachelor of Science.
At Johnson C. Smith University, Coach Douglas was the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (NCAA Division II conference) Rookie of the Year and was selected during his college-playing career as All-Conference Team Player in both singles and doubles for 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008.
Coach Douglas has also represented Bermuda in a number of local tennis tournaments and was amongst the first of 3 Bermudians to represent Bermuda in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Tournament at the age of 18. While more recently Coach Douglas has represented Bermuda in the Davis Cup.
Coach Douglas is currently the BLTA’s Junior Development Coordinator and the East End’s Tennis in the Schools Initiative Coordinator. He is a certified tennis instructor and holds coaching certifications and qualifications from the US Professional Tennis Association (USPTA), the International Tennis Federation (ITF), the US Tennis Association (USTA) and the Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA).
